Jimmy Valvano
“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives.
Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day.
Number two is, think. You should spend some time in thought.
And number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy.
But think about it. If you laugh, you think and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heckuva day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.”

"You're not in charge, you're responsible for people in your charge"
I've found a lot of business leadership rhetoric inconsistent with who I want to be as a person. I could never really get one board with quotes like; "the process of dealing with or controlling things or people" or “It is the act of getting things done through others and having them do it willingly."
I like people, and I don't want to see anyone as a means to an end. I don't care about the company or its shareholders more than the people I see and work with every day. Here is an approach I really appreciate.

"Science is all about coulda, not about shoulda"
After the Capitol attack, there has and likely will continue to be a lot of talk about the impact that Social Media has on our society.
As someone who is knowledgeable in this space I know that the unintended consequences of algorithms put innocently in place to keep users engaged on their platform by showing them more of what they like. It is essentially reflects your own opinion back to you so you see no alternative opinions.
However really it is the outcome of a wider issue that became prevalent in Silicon Valley and is making it’s way into corporations. You may have heard “Fail Fast”, “Move fast and break things”, “Rapid Innovation” buzz word, buzz word, buzz word.
No this video doesn’t specifically address the issue but it highlights the problem of acting without thinking of the potential consequences in a hilarious way.

Conceptually Dismantling The Wall
Turns out Seesaws are great tools to make notable and lasting political impacts. There is something extremely heartwarming and heartbreaking about kids playing together separated by a wall. We have an opportunity to see people differently, let's take it.

A Relentless Motherfucker
You might recognize who this is, you might even recognize where this is and when. But you don't know anything about the person who made it happen.
Not Lin Manuel, his dad Luis A. Miranda Jr. Sometimes you get the pleasure of meeting someone who just makes you go "........Wow"

Sexy Routine
Sometimes Stupid and Silly is exactly what you need.

Jumping to conclusions
Quite a few people jumped to conclusions right after the attacks. While I do think that the lack of planning shows at least this administration's racial bias, the criticism of the police on the Hill is largely unfounded. Still, think the Cops didn't try to stop anyone or arrest enough people? Listen to the first-hand accounts of these officers.

What we need to hear now
You likely know Arnold from his movies, and you may even remember him as the Governor of California.
Here he stars in another role as a man who immigrated from a nation suffering from its own complicity in the last Far-Right power grab. Is Trump Hitler? No, certainly not. Was Hitler always the Hitler we know? No, at one point, he was a Painter and even an elected part of the government. It is worth being aware of the past don't want to repeat.

TJ Miller as Cupid
Ever threaten a stranger on Tinder? Well, TJ Miller did on behalf of a perfect stranger.

Hate the sin, not the sinner
Dave Chapelle is a long-time friend of Kanye and can separate what the superstar says from the man.
We all probably know people now who we vehemently disagree with, especially now we have people who live in a different reality than most of the world does. Most of these people are good people that we love and care about. Especially now, we need to find a way to love them while also condemning the occasional nonsense that they emit. I think Dave does a good job of loving Kanye but not sanctioning his behavior.

Getting the most out of what we already have
I have been a long time fan of Icon. However, I have never found a video short enough to be palatable to most of the public but long enough to communicate just how awesome Icon is.
Do we need to invent new things to upgrade into the future? Watch the video; see what you think.
Engineering with Soul

Eternal Road Trip
Like being out on the open road, seeing the world, stopping whenever where ever you want to stop? How about parking in a regular parking spot in any city or on any back road and just camping out? How much do we really need? How much do we really need? All questions I asked myself while watching this video.

"Maybe I am too young to experience this pain"
I try and post stories that are more hopeful in the Moved to Tears section. I am hoping for someone to be moved with hope. However, after coming across this story I felt it had to be told. There are so many courageous women in this story. The saddest part is, I know it will not get better. Afghanistan is likely to return to the dark ages and women are likely to suffer greatly as the country is handed back to the Taliban.

"KG with those Skinny Jeans on"
There are few things better than Area 51, the Cuss Button, and Barkley ribbing The Big Ticket about his Skinny Jeans!

Hopefully history not repeating itself
I would never have thought that knowing about the Reichstag Fire would be necessary for anything more serious than a history Mid Term. However, January 2021 has made it a must understand point in history.
You are going to see some scary similarities and feel afraid. What if what we saw at the beginning of 2021 progressed in a similar way? How far away were we really?

Lambo Doors and the Rambo Lambo
Keeping with today's auto theme and feeling compelled to enter something in Laugh led me to the clip.
If you are interested in cars, watch it; if you are not interested in cars, watch it, you will still probably laugh.

Insight into the next Super Power
This might be the most intriguing thing I have come across in the last 12 months. Zhang Weiwei was the translator to Deng Xiaoping who was the Chinese Leader after Mao. Deng started China down the path we are so familiar with.
In this video, he gives us insight into how China thinks. It's almost as though he is talking to a Chinese person about how Westerners see China.

"He's out there playing with kids"
Sometimes you are way too old for that shit.

"A cake, yourself, someone else"
I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It’s easy. Just click “Edit Text” or double click me to add your own content and make changes to the font. I’m a great place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.

The EXTREME danger of numbers
We think of metrics as a relatively new thing brought on by the digital age. The truth is we have been recording numbers in order to quantify success for centuries.
The ease with which we can now collect data has given it an importance that is pretty dangerous.
Why? The numbers are the numbers? But what if the numbers do not tell the whole story? How bad could it actually get?

"I'm either in the race....or you peel me off the cement"
"I would die for..."You've heard people say it, some don't mean it, some think they do.
Willy T Ribbs did.
You don't have to be an automotive enthusiast to appreciate the dogged determination and stubbornness that it takes to make a difference ina world that is not rooting fro you. Worth a search on Netflix.

What it is like to live in a country with no Social Welfare
Thatcher and some other Conservatives thought and still think we need to coddle the poor less. There is a thought that social welfare programs make people lazy.
Here is a great example of a country with no social welfare programs with a cast that might get your attention.

Challenging your own Thinking
There is a long history in my family of "listening to the other side." For me, the key to successful progress is "Finding Common Ground". We are much more alike than we may think.
After the attack on America's Capital, it seems critical that we once again come together and find common ground. Every once in a while, I am going to post something like this. Something that might make you initially feel uncomfortable. I would encourage you to watch it, be open, and challenge your thinking about a given subject.

Context is King
As a history major, I have always been a huge fan of context. If you really want to understand what happened and how to improve things, you really need to get the whole story from all those involved.
This news clip does a pretty good job of collecting and summarizing the facts and hearing out others. It would seem that a lack of preparation was an issue. How much of that was a result of white prevlidege, incompetence, or collusion by Trump, is hard to say. However, like most problems, it is WAY more complex than most news stations are reporting, and people are yelling.

Perfectly identifying with an inanimate object
This video was done 9 years ago. I doubt there was anything made at the time that captured this moment in human history better.

Granting dignity costs you nothing and is priceless to the recipient
Judge Glazer grants this man dignity at one of his lower moments in life by recognizing him as a human being. Her words obviously touch him and I think are a huge part of why this video went viral a while back.

Sinatra would have taken one knee
Frank Sinatra is known for a lot of songs and connections to the Mob. However, he also helped out Sammy Daivd Jr and other black entertainers in Vegas.

Sometimes it is not about you
Foster parents have to go through a lot. They often get troubled kids, and all the comes with that.
However, I've heard the hardest part is the attachment and potential separation. You get attached to the child, a child that could be taken away at any moment. It always seems to come across as understated, but it is really an extremely selfless act.
I think being a Foster Parent is one of the more noble things a human being can do.
Although a little heavy-handed at times, this is a story that will get a lump in your throat going.

"If you are going to do that, Fair Play to You"
This is Eddie Izzard talking to Joe Rogan about running 43 marathons in 53 days!
The most thought-provoking part for me was how doing something so epic for charity changed so many people's opinions. How do you change long-held perceptions? Perhaps by doing something that shirks the stereotype to completely that people have no choice but to reconsider their view of you?

"We don't want to admit we have a poo"
Eddie Izzard and Rogan again. This time talking about Trans bathrooms.
Very hard not to see Izzard's point about us "humans" making it a problem. Not everyone has cubicles and certainly didn;t on the past. People just took a crap. Now we are all shy about it. Is society progressing or regressing? It's just going to the washroom and we all do it. The person who you idealize most does it? Why are we so weird about it?

Things don't always go as planned
No one bats 1,000, not even the great Will Ferrell.
This clip is Will accepting the Mark Twain Prize. One of the great Ferrell moments that only 100's of people have seen.

How Americans wanting Bananas lead to the assassination of a President
No this is no a conspiracy theory, this is what actually happened.
Some pretty egregious things were done in the name of democracy during the Cold War.
It is an invitation to think about whether the ends really do justify the means. What actions really are justified by the ends?

"I go to great lengths, not to read in public"
This is a short clip of Dave Chapelle being epic at the Def Comedy Jam Reunion. He has a room full of Comedians crying tears of laughter. Watch the clip but be sure to get on Netflix and watch the whole night because it is all kinds of amazing!

Losing a best friend
If you have lost a pet you will appreciate this video.

Changing mindsets
In certain parts of India, girls are not valued as much as livestock. Long-held traditions are to blame. How do you address the problem? Safeena Husain believes that education is the route. Multiple studies across multiple countries show that empowering women through education has a positive impact over generations.
The approach begs the question as to whether being effective needs to involve impacting a wider community? Is it enough to educate girls and then send them back into an intolerant environment, or do you also need to work to change the environment they are being released into?

More than one way to get your water
Does the city or municipality need to provide you your water? This guy gets 90% of his household water from rainwater and he lives in the middle of the Arizona desert!
It just makes you reconsider how we get our water and whether we actually need to rely on the government to deliver it to us? What if we all took on a little more ourselves rather than relying on the government?

Hard to forget those who were never called to our attention
I'd bet a majority of us remember ISIS and have an idea of the horrible things they did. What I think is often forgotten about is the Yazidi women who suffered unimaginable things at the hands of their ISIS captors. This story is about how these women are rebuilding their lives.

Insults between friends
If you are good enough friends you can say pretty well much anything to each other as long as there is no malice.
Their comfort with one another leads to a ton of laughs for everyone.

Sometimes all we need is a hug
Sometimes we are very easy to dismiss people because we find it easier than understanding them as unique human beings. This man was faced with the most unfortunate of circumstances and choose to see a person.

What are we actually trying to do?
I feel like sometimes we get lost in metrics. Understandably we want to gain some idea of how we are doing but often we forget that numbers do not tell the entire story. They are indicative of the intended result, not the actual result.
Gene Sperling was Director of the National Economic Council and Assistant to the President for Economic Policy under Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. He has written a book that addresses our obsession with certain economic metrics.
This may seem boring but these numbers and our leader's obsession with them have a dramatic impact on our individual lives. It is worth questioning what we are really trying to do and accepting that numbers can not tell us everything.

Always lock your phone
This is the kind of thing that can happen when you don't lock your phone.

Reuniting
Regardless of Your feelings about either of the US wars, I feel like we all understand the power of reuniting with people we care about.

Knowledge can come from of the most unlikely places
I came across this video and honestly was not expecting a whole lot. I ended up being blown away by his easy-going wisdom.
This interview gives you a great sense of what the book is like. It is a great read, and his life is way more interesting than you think it is.
How boring could the life of a man arrested for playing the Bongo's naked be?

Can't you die from 49?
We all get old and will have that moment when we realize we are officially Not Young" anymore.
Foxx pokes fun at this and a ton of other things they will just make you laugh.

AI not quite the Silver Bullet many think it is
It seems like people either are terrified of AI and Machine Learning based on the false expectations of what it will provide. Business leaders think it is magic and their employees think it is going to make them obsolete. The truth is in the middle but miles away from what each side believes the reality to be.
Janelle Shane does a fantastic job of boiling down what you really should consider.
This doesn't mean we shouldn't be concerned and push for real conversations about how we want AI to evolve. It just means we should be more educated about it before we have those conversations.

Rooftop Tennis
Italy was the first European country to be hit hard with COVID-19. We saw our first images of once-bustling streets and city centers eerily empty. We also saw Italians on their balcony's serenading their neighbors with their voices and instruments and applauding their healthcare workers. Recently I saw another Italian example of the indomitable human spirit. Check out these two take to the roof to carry on their favorite game. The initiative they took was noticed and rewarded.

New Balls Please
I'm sure it is staged but it's hilarious anyway.

"I AM, coming home today"
Easily one of the most harrowing stories I have ever heard. He paints such a vivid picture of panic and determination to get home to his family.

"My biggest fear was that I was not going to be there when someone needed me"
There is a ton of Navy Seal video's out there. Usually, former Seals talking about grit and determination.
This one is different and quite illuminating.

Just a Legend
I've seen and heard Marshawn Lynch do a lot of crazy things, but this one takes the cake! My god, this is funny!

The answer is we don't really know
This video is everything I love about The Economist. You want easy answers? Sorry the real world is way more complicated than that.

Is Green travel possible?
The current realities of trying to make the airline industry more eco-friendly.

Funding the Green Revolution
There is ideology and then there is reality. We may want more Green Technologies but how will they come about? On January 1st 2021 Bill Gates gave us his latest take.

The Pandemics Assult on Globalization
Globalization has been in decline for a number of reasons. The question is, did the Pandemic deliver a death blow?

"Tell Jodi Foster that story..."
Probably the greatest story ever told.

Can we not just manufacture Ivory?
It is easy to hate Poachers if you ignore their economic conditions and the international demand that drives them to Poach.
Thankfully, for this particular elephant his brush with people of this profession was not fatal.

"Half the country is at home in their comfy clothes ordering takeout and the other half is delivering it"
Being locked away in your home working means you probably have a much different experience than a majority of the world right now. Worth keeping in mind.

Keep it in Perspective
At the end of the day, it's ultimately all empty and meaningless. Make the most of it.

Heartwarming Gif's
These kinds of videos just make me smile. Hopefully, it does the same for you.

"Chris nooooo ..... no Chris nooo"
Ran into this a few weeks ago. Watching Rush Hour now. Chris Tucker is so damn funny. #PissedoffMan

Wow it is just a social media site
I was extremely surprised by the level of addiction to Facebook. It's hard to know what to say to someone who gets all their news off of Facebook. Sometimes I feel like the world imagined by Pixar in the movie WALL-E is inevitable.
Honestly, if Facebook stopped existing tomorrow, how different would your life really be?

"Vodka's kind of a hobby"
Betty White recently turned 99 and I think she is a great example of not taking yourself seriously and putting fun first.

What makes a good life?
The Harvard Study of Adult Development is the longest study ever done on the lives of men. At the time of this video, it had been going on for 75 years.

Separated for 215 days
Really touching story about an elderly couple separated in a nursing home for 215 days. They met each other in High School at a Skating Rink.

"Don't think you're gonna walk away from 50 million dollars; and your wife is just gonna be cool with it"
One of Chapelle's first public appearances after he walked away from his Comedy Central show.

Compassion, Patience, and Understanding: How real change happens
We all know Chapelle is funny but there is a far more profound side to him. Much like Ali he will be remembered for being exceptional at his craft and having an impact that goes far beyond the boundaries of his vocation.
This story is a great example of how I think we can drive real change. Not shaming, or canceling, or silencing people but engaging them with some compassion. The best defense against a bad idea is a better one.
I hate the title of the video and how it starts as confrontational. I doubt Chapelle would have approved but I can't find the story anywhere else.

Racing for the Environment
This is probably the biggest shift in Auto Racing I have ever seen. No, it is not just because it is electric. That is notable but there is so much more to this series that is a MASSIVE departure from any current day racing series.

That time Simon Cowell couldn't talk
Sometimes these manufactured shows, manufacture something pretty amazing.

Best Carol Burnett Clip EVER
It didn't age a bit. Hilarious

The Rat Pack
A great time capsule.

"Where did you lose this interview?"
The contrast is potent and epic!

Rendering your Dream
Art takes a lot of different forms and technology has enabled even more forms. To go from a drawing to a usable sculpture that you drive is quite an achievment. While I appreciate that this is the basis of car design, I also appreciate that this guy did something entirely on his own.
His art inspired others to build. In the future with 3D printing and the dramatic increase in robotics who knows what will be possible

The X Factor Look
I have gone down the Rabbit Hole with these XFactor video's and I found another great one. A person who felt limited because of who they were, only to find out that who she was was the most compelling thing of all.

"...and that was an anecdote about nailing one of the Teletubbies"
You might start watching this and think you will not get it because you don't know Mr Blobby . Hang in there, it won't matter at all. Real Terror from Jack, Real chaos from Mr Blobby! Both hillarious

Proxy Wars, Oil and Extravagance
There has recently been and will continue to be a lot of talk about Iran and the US. This video does a pretty good job of explaining the tenuous relationship. As the Editor says at the end "Both leaders are held captive by history".

"I want to do more with my life than just give up"
Some people you just can't help but admire.

What responsibilities do we have to each other in a society?
Some say America is more divided than ever. The truth is the “Gilded Age” was equally as divided and may hold some clues as to how America might come back from the brink and move to a more equitable society. America holds business leaders in the highest regard even if they do things that are reprehensible. They are the modern day hero’s but also monuments to a society that values the individual over the community. The more you can get for yourself the better. The result is many are left behind and begin to look in dangerous areas for inspiration

Humiliation is your friend
Tom Hardy is an awesome actor and has taken on a ton of super challenging roles. One might think that it comes naturally to him but the truth is it is all perseverance.

"I waaant sum IIIIIIIce Cream"
With Coming Two America out it feels necessary to put something up from one of the funniest men to ever walk the earth.

Why we lie to ourselves
I think we like to believe that we have great bullshit detectors and then we are all able to see the truth. The reality is even the sharpest among us delude ourselves.

"Oh Yeah, that's because it's not baked yet"
James has agreed to go on a very popular baking show for charity. James has never baked before...

"This is more than just a friendship, it's an alliance, an invincible alliance"
Sometimes we think of modern-day geniuses as people that emerged fully born as remarkable human beings. This Bio-pic gives an indication of how the contribution of others can net out in a brilliance that did and continues to captivae the world.

What if you totally rethought how car were made?
This seems pretty basic but it could change cars massively! Looking forward to all the different variations.

"When i'm here, i'm just like everyone else"
If you had a trach tube in your neck to breathe would you consider playing football?

"Sorry i'm not allowed to argue anymore"
The next time someone tries to argue with you...

Waves that can power your home
More and more Green Tech seems to arrive every day. Some more legit than others. This seems like it has promise in a world where sea walls are likely to be more and more of a necessity.

"That's my old Chevy"
Every parent sacrifices for their kids. What if you could restore one of the biggest sacrifices your dad made?

"Top shelf shit"
If you know even a little bit about South Africa, this shit is hilarious!

"He is full of shit but I like him"
I really appreciated this clip from the show as it highlighted that people are generally Grey and more nuanced than the black and white easily digestible archetypes that media pushes in many cases.

"Coach working, interiors, all of that will become absolute"
I hope the future they are talking about comes true. Wouldn't that be great.

Anti Helicopter Parenting
Who wouldn't want a daughter like this? All you have to do is be willing to let them make mistakes.

"The Giraffe didn't look well to be honest with you"
Some people just have an excess of character that is undeniably entertaining

"...it's not as important as the fact that it simply doesn't work"
Sometimes how you achieve something is more important than achieving it.

The continuing Impact of BREXIT
We could see an end to the UK as we have always known it in our lifetime.

THINK: 3D Print your home
While we know concrete is not exactly the most carbon-neutral building material, this method has some interesting benefits. A dramatic reduction in time on site and transportation of materials as well as speed.

12 Rules you might want to consider
I am betting most of you have heard of Jordan Peterson and can at least agree that he is controversial.
This video about his latest book is probably the least controversial thing have heard from him and likely the most helpful.

Avoiding Extinction
I have always thought that Astroids were one of the problems that no one was working on. Turns out that "NASA has been on it and is making some good progress. Thank god NASA exists! They really have done more net good for the entire planet than most organizations and governments. Maybe now that Besos and Branson are playing Space Travel Agent to the Uber Wealthy NASA can focus on more unmanned but practical projects like this.
